Research Interests: Design of multimedia learning environments and technology-enhanced assessment of learning. Both lines converge in semi-presential designs and the use of blockchain in education.
He has been the Principal Investigator of the LMI (Learning, Media & Social Interactions) group. He has led more than 20 high-budget international R&D projects in the areas of technology-enhanced learning environment design and digital literacy and inclusion. He was one of the early pioneers in the use of multimedia systems in education (1988) and the implementation of blended learning environments in universities (1998).
He has authored 35 books and 186 articles. He has delivered 275 lectures in countries including Mexico, Chile, Brazil, Spain, Colombia, Peru, Costa Rica, Argentina, the United States of America, Belgium, Italy, Canada, Portugal, Guatemala, and Germany. He has been a visiting professor at various institutions such as the University of Guadalajara, Monterrey, Canterbury, Federal University of Santa Catarina, Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, El Salvador, Tecnológico de Monterrey, and Calgary, among others. Additionally, he has taught 240 courses in universities and teacher training centers across these countries.
He is a member of the scientific committee for about thirty publications and 99 international conferences. On ResearchGate, he ranks in the top 5%, which rises to the top 1% in the field of Teacher Training. On Academia, he is in the top 2%. Google Scholar calculates his h-index at 47 and his i10-index at 110.
